Jerry De Smidt
Jerry
De Smidt is the North Central District director. He was born in Sheboygan, WI in October 1969
where his family had a small dairy operation. Jerry has been around animals
all his life working for dairy farmers ever since he was a young kid.
Jerry
started raising poultry while in High School but they were for eggs and
meat. He started out with Easter Eggers, commercial Leghorns and Red
Stars. Jerry says “if I knew then what I know now I would have
started with exhibition birds instead of commercial birds”. In 2000
he purchased his first Ameraucana pair of LF black, with the help of his
friend Jake, from Jeoff Stevens at the Wisconsin International Poultry Show
in Janesville, WI. Jerry now raises several varieties in LF and bantam,
including LF black, blue, buff, white, wheaten and blue wheaten. In
bantams he has black, blue, and white. Through the years he has acquired
birds form Wayne Meredith, John Blehm, and Mike Gilbert.
Jerry
and Jake go to many shows through out the Midwestern states as far west as Colorado and as far east as Ohio. They show many different varieties of poultry in large
fowl and bantam. They also enjoy raising and showing registered
Polled Herefords and Fullblood Pinzgauer beef cattle.
Jerry
works for Green Bay
Nursery and Landscaping in the retail store as a yard supervisor.
