John W. Blehm
John
and his wife, Kathy, live in Birch Run, Michigan. They married in 1973 and have three children and
five grandchildren.
John has been a member
of the Ameraucana Breeders Club since 1982 and received the ABC Life Time
Achievement Award in 2001. He has held offices in the ABC, including
District Director, Secretary/Treasurer and President
John had Ameraucana
chickens before they were known as Ameraucanas and currently breeds several
varieties of bantams and large fowl. He has bred all 16 recognized
varieties over the years, developing some and making improvements to
others. John developed large fowl buff, black, blue & white
Ameraucanas. These varieties were also independently developed by
others including Wayne Meredith, of WI, and Arne Schmidt, of MN. He
also developed bantam buffs with Mike Gilbert, of WI, and bantam lavenders
with Michael Muenks, of MO.
