Michael Muenks
Michael
was born in Jefferson City, Missouri in 1970 in a rural area just west of the capital of Missouri. Michael’s first experience with poultry was at the age of
five with a pair of Muscovy ducks his
grandfather gave him and his sister. Chickens entered the picture in 1980
and Ameraucana chickens in 1983. At the time the black bantams were called
Araucana, but they were definitely what today would be called Ameraucana.
After moving to California, Missouri and purchasing a small amount of land in 1998 Ameraucana
bantams were on the short list of things to find and raise. The first true
Ameraucana bantams in white and brown red were from Mike Gilbert. Large
fowl Ameraucana where introduced at Bantam Hill in the fall of 2003 when
Michael purchased a few birds from Paul Smith.
Michael currently breeds all 8 varieties of both large fowl and bantam
Ameraucana at Bantam Hill. Michael is also involved in the black gold and
lavender breeding projects.
Michael and his wife Anastasia have two daughters, Eva and Lucy. Eva and
Lucy love to travel to Ameraucana Nationals. Other residents at Bantam Hill
include peafowl, Muscovy ducks, Mini Lop
rabbits, Fuzzy Lop rabbits, and Call Ducks.
Michael has been a mathematics teacher and middle school principal. He
currently works for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the
Assessment Section since August of 2004.
